Investigations into the murder of Nairobi businessman Caroline Wanjiku Maina have disclosed she has received threat messages o her phone days before she went missing.

Phone records show that the businesswoman owed one of the four suspects in her murder case some money.

According to reports, the said text messages cautioned her of dire consequences if she failed to pay the debt she allegedly owed the sender.

Police suspect that Wanjiku used one of her friend’s logbooks to secure a loan from a shylock, which she struggled to repay. The loan shark had also threatened to repossess the vehicle using the logbook, according to the police report.

The police also believe that the deceased was also in contact with her ex-boyfriend who is also among the suspects.

Forensic analysis conducted on Wanjiku’s mobile phone and of the suspect’s put the duo at the same location on the day she disappeared.

Police are also seeking to obtain CCTV footage from Stima Sacco in Ngara where the deceased was last seen alongside the suspects.

Investigations also revealed that prior to the kidnapping, Wanjiku withdrew Ksh350,000 from her bank account.

“Once at Ngara, Wanjiku had been forced into a waiting black car, KCN 300D, make Toyota Crown, in which one of the suspects were waiting, before being handcuffed and sandwiched by the other named suspects,” the DCI said.

Acting on forensic analysis, detectives escorted two of the suspects to Paranai area in Kajiado.

A Mercedes Benz sedan was also recovered at one of the suspect’s homes.
